Sustainable Floor Covering: Cork, Linoleum, and Bamboo
Carol Swedlow
The floor covering industry offers a range of rapidly renewable and biodegradable options, including cork, linoleum, and bamboo. This seminar will cover specifications, LEED, installation procedures, and maintenance recommendations for these environmentally-friendly materials.
Aronson’s owner Carol Swedlow is a licensed architect and member of the USGBC who is working to complete LEED certification. Over the last decade, she has helped to change the conversation about materials, artisanship and sustainability in the floor covering industry through her relationships with designers, her work with artisan fabricators around the world, and her workshop series on the subject for architects and designers. In the process, she has honed a philosophy of environmental sustainability that is reflected in flooring collections featuring natural fibers and other sustainable materials, beautiful design, and quality workmanship.

Carpeting for Historic Buildings
Ronald Weiss
Reproduction, or recreating the pattern, color, fabrication and texture of an existing swatch of carpeting, is one approach to carpeting for historic buildings. If extant carpeting is not available, finding an historically appropriate design or developing one based on information known about the time period are alternatives. Ronald Weiss will discuss construction, fibers, colors, patterns and installation for carpet in historic settings. Case studies, including Gracie Mansion and projects for the Rockefeller, Loeb and Forbes families, will illustrate the process.
Ronald Weiss is a specialist in carpets of historic design from the 19th century. Ron is a recent addition to the Aronson’s sales staff and he brings with him 30 years of experience with carpeting for both contract and residential clients.
